George Ober was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1849. He started acting at a young age with the Ford's Theatre stock company, and by the 1860s he had played a number of roles. On stage he was most popular for a condensed vaudeville version of "Rip Van Winkle." He appeared in Seattle for the January 14 to January 17, 1906 production of "The College Widow" at the Grand Opera House. In his long stage career he appeared alongside such actors as John Wilkes Booth, Edwin Booth, Charlotte Cushman and Edwin Forrest. He eventually transitioned to film and was associated with the Vitagraph Company and usually uncredited with the Thanhouser Company. He died on Nov 16, 1912.
