Charlie Chaplin, best know for his silent film characters, began performing at a young age with his parents in London music halls (the English equivalent to vaudeville). He became a member of the Fred Karno comedy troupe at age 19, which brought him to America and to the stages of Seattle periodically between 1911-1913.
