Annie Russell
Annie Russell was born in Liverpool in 1864, but was raised in Canada. Russell's first role was in 1872, in a Montreal production of "Miss Multon". Her first New York debut was in 1879 with the children's acting company the H.M.S. Pinafore, as Josephine. Russell toured widely, traveling to Australia and South America. Russel found her breakout role in 1881, when she starred in "Esmeralda". Toward the end of her career, Russell organized and acted in the Old English Comedy Company, taking the roles of Beatrice, and Lydia Languish, among others. Russell retired in 1918.
